Gardner feels transition to cornerback going well

Inside the Gators Intern

Sophomore defensive back Chanucey Gardner has some big shoes to fill in 2017.

This spring the Florida football team is adjusting to losing starting cornerbacks Quincy Wilson and Jalen “Teez” Tabor to the NFL. Even with the duo gone, Gators head coach Jim McElwain and his staff will look to Gardner to provide some stability in the secondary.

In his freshman season, the then safety from Cocoa, FL, recorded 32 tackles and three interceptions. Gardner got a lot of experience in his freshman campaign, appearing in all 13 games and starting the final three. The best moment of Gardner’s Florida career so far came in the Outback Bowl against Iowa, where he intercepted two passes, one for a touchdown.

This spring brings a new challenge for Gardner as the former safety is transitioning to playing corner.

Gardner, however, doesn’t see it as a challenge at all, just another way to help the team win.
