Getting to Know: Evan McPherson
Joseph Hastings
Inside the Gators

When Evan McPherson committed to the Florida Gators last December, there were still questions about whether or not kicker Eddy Piñeiro would be returning for his senior season.

Nine days after his commitment, McPherson found out that Piñeiro, the most accurate field goal kicker in Gators' history, had declared early for the 2018 NFL Draft. That decision opened up an opportunity for McPherson, the number one kicker in the Class of 2018 Rankings, to begin his collegiate career as the projected starter for the Gators.

The former Mississippi State commit, who cited Dan Mullen’s move to Florida as a reason to why he flipped schools, signed with the Gators on the first day of the Early Signing Period.

Today it's time to learn a little bit more about McPhere on a personal level in this edition of Getting to Know.

Take us through the process that led to your commitment. What was that experience like for you?

"It’s a big part of my life, switching to a state like Florida is big. I just had to know what I was getting into. And what I’m going into is going to be something special. I’m happy about it."

Which school came in second for you and why?

"I’m not really going to put them in order. The second place would be, like, Mississippi State because they’ve always been there. And I’ve visited a million times. I just know everything about it. Just the relationships that I’ve had with all the coaching staff, and they moved over to Florida, so it seemed like it was right."

What was the craziest, strangest or weirdest moment of the recruiting cycle (a visit, something a coach said or did, etc...)?
