Getting to Know: John Huggins
Joseph Hastings
Inside the Gators

Making the switch from being committed to Florida State to committing to Florida is a tough decision to make due to the football rivalry between the two programs. For Johnathan Huggins, however, the combination of Jimbo Fisher’s decision to leave for Texas A&M and the love he has for Florida was enough to make him sign with the Gators in December.

Huggins, a 6-foot-1, 198-pound safety from Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland, had been an Seminoles' commit for over four months before reopening his recruiting process in the wake of Fisher’s departure from the school.

Although he had named Nebraska his leader shortly after his decommitment, Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators offered Huggins and were able to set up an official visit to Gainesville on December 15th. The rest, as they say, is history as Huggins committed to the Gators during his visit and signed with them on the first day of Early Signing Period.

Today it's time to learn a little bit more about who Huggins is outside of the playing field in this edition of Getting to Know.

Take us through the process that led to your commitment. What was that experience like for you?

"Well, the process is really easy to find somewhere that felt like home. And being comfortable with the coaches, comfortable with the facilities, comfortable with the area. The process is really... I fell in love with the University of Florida when I came to campus on the official visit. Really bonding with the players and bonding with people around the community."

Which school came in second for you and why?

"It was really in the air. I had a couple of schools that I was eyeing. Nebraska, Louisville, Miami, Florida State."

What was the craziest, strangest or weirdest moment of the recruiting cycle?
