KISSIMMEE, Fla. | Kyle Pitts looks the part of a tight end, all 6-foot-5, 235 pounds of him. Arriving at the University of Florida college ready from a physical standpoint plays a part in his not being content on waiting his turn to play in the Swamp.

The senior out of Archbishop Wood Catholic in Warminster, Pennsylvania, is ready to make an immediate presence this fall.

“I want to come in and start as a freshman,” he said after the second practice session of the Under Armour All-American Game Week at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

Pitts may just yet realize that goal. Last year, the had senior DeAndre Goolsby and redshirt freshman C’yontai Lewis as their two top tight ends.

One has since graduated, the other is entering his senior season without much to show for his three years on campus.

With UF rebuilding somewhat in the passing game, Pitts was a huge get for new Gators coach Dan Mullen. According to The Intelligencer in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, Pitts caught 19 passes for 359 yards through the PIAA Class 5A semifinals. His efforts earned him First Team Philadelphia Catholic League Red Division selection.

Pitts’ efforts opened up eyes of recruiters, including those at UF. The monster kid out of the Keystone State made it official when he signed during the Early Signing Period.

So how are friends and family back home in Pennsylvania reacting to Pitts’ decision to go south nearly 1,000 miles to play college football?

“I think I’ll be fine,” Pitts said with a smile. “I’ll make a good adjustment.”

Pitts said he plans on making extra efforts in the offseason to get better. He said he already has made some progress with his size.

“When I started my senior year, I was 230 pounds,” he said. “Now, I’m up to 235.”

As for personal goals this week, for example, trying to increase his star rating, he said that has not crossed his mind. “I’m not really worried about stars,” he said.
