The head coach was gone. The team had lost four games in a row, including a pair of back-to-back blowouts. Florida needed a leader.

But it wasn't the quarterback who took charge. It wasn't one of the seniors who experienced the previous coaching change, either. It was linebacker David Reese, a true sophomore.

When addressing the media after a 45-16 loss to Missouri, Reese called out his teammates. He said what fans on message and social media were saying: The Gators weren't showing any fight and they weren't playing for each other.

“I feel like this is something that had to be done," Reese said. "I feel like this is something that guys before me had done at my position, things like that. So I feel like it was just time for me to step up. Just grow up quick. Just be able to lead this defense to try and become the best defense we can become."
