1. Move the sticks and keep the offense on the field
In the second half, Tennessee held the ball for more than 20 minutes, twice Florida’s time of possession for the third and fourth quarters. All that time on the field led to the Gators defense wearing down. The Volunteers offense were able to move up and down on a UF defense that was gassed in the second half.
On his weekly radio show, head coach Jim McElwain pointed to third-down conversion as the key to keeping the defense fresh. If the offense can produce more sustained drives, the defense can be better rested for the fourth quarter.
