Inside the Gators

When Florida head coach Jim McElwain called the offensive line the strength of his team this off-season, he pointed to the experience of a unit that returned all but one starter. On Monday, it was the unit’s newcomer who was in the spotlight.

The SEC named redshirt freshman left guard Brett Heggie the Offensive Lineman of the Week. The Gators posted their biggest offensive output of the season (467 total yards) in a 38-24 over Vanderbilt on Saturday. Heggie had already been recognized by the team as one of the game’s top performers.

“Brett actually was our offensive player of the week,” McElwain said. “He's a guy that I think put a complete game together and just really played with pad level. It was good to see. Now he's going to be really playing against some guys this week. We'll see if he's up to the task.”
