For the second straight week, Florida faces an opponent coming off an embarrassing loss. In Week 4, Vanderbilt was thumped 59-0 by Alabama. LSU enters The Swamp looking to rebound from 24-21 loss to Troy, the Tigers’ homecoming opponent. Despite LSU’s shocking loss, UF head coach Jim McElwain isn’t worried about the Gators overlooking the Bayou Bengals.
“Us, overlook somebody? Wow. No,” McElwain said Monday. “We know what kind of players they have, and you probably have written about the guys they held out in that game, probably getting them ready to come here. No. Not at all."
McElwain expects LSU to have star running back Derrius Guice back for Saturday’s contest. The junior, who rushed for 1,387 yards on 7.58 yards per carry last season, missed the Troy game.
“I expect the running back to play and play his tail off on national TV as I do all their guys,” McElwain said. “We’re going to have to show up and play big-boy football. It will be fun to see how our guys respond to that this week in practice.”
