UPDATE
Statement from Florida Sports Information: "Coach McElwain is aware and it has been dealt with."
------
Florida coach Jim McElwain has another disciplinary issue to address as two Gators players were recently cited for marijuana possession.
As first reported by WLTV, a University of Florida police report shows that freshman linebacker Ventrell Miller and freshman wide receiver James Robinson, both from Lakeland, Fla., were charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana on Monday.
The police report states that police a residential assistant walking outside of the Keys residential complex on campus smelled a "strong odor of burnt cannabis emanating in the air" around 12:30 a.m. Monday. After being notified by the RA, UF police knocked on the door of the apartment in question which was identified as Robinson’s by a suite mate. Inside the room, officers noted a “cloud of smoke” and took note of a styrofoam cup being used as an ashtray by Robinson and Miller.
Robinson was asked where the cannabis was and pointed officers to a drawer where two small marijuana bags were stored. Each player admitted to owning one of the bags. In two practices following the citations, Robinson was participating in the portions open to media viewing.
Robinson was cited for marijuana possession on his official visit to Ohio State as a recruit. It resulted in his offer being pulled by University of Florida administrators, but McElwain worked behind the scenes to remedy the situation and get Robinson in the class.
Miller is one of the seven players suspended for the Michigan game for reported misuse of student aid debit cards.
