To categorize things as going well for Florida along the recruiting trail right now would be a bit of an understatement.

Not only are the Gators adding commitment after commitment from their top targets, but they also have national prospects seeking them out.

On Tuesday St. Louis (Mo.) Chaminade Rivals100 defensive tackle Trevor Trout tweeted it that he had been offered by Florida.

There is nothing out of the ordinary about that.

However, this story has a bit of a twist in that while normally it is coaches who seek out top tier prospects - in this instance it was the No. 39 rated player in the nation who initiated the contact.

“It's a funny story,” replied Trout as he told the story of how the offer came about. “This is what happened. I was playing around, going through all my old DM's [direct message] and I saw one from Florida. I think he was a GA [graduate assistant] and I messaged him back. I said, 'Are you guys still interested?' The next thing you know the d-line coach [Chris Rumph] called me yesterday [Monday] and said he saw my film and wanted to offer me.”

Even with 35 offers already on hand, getting this one from Florida, even late in the process, is something that caught the attention of the 6-foot-3, 295-pounder.

“It felt pretty good,” Trout said. “It's a storied program with great academics – one of the top 10 public universities in the country. I'll definitely take a closer look at them, but I can't speak on where they stand because they just offered today.”

In mid June Trout released a top nine consisting of Georgia, Miami, Missouri, Oklahoma, Penn State, Southern Cal, TCU, Texas A&M and UCLA.

Six weeks later and he said there has been no movement as far as a leaderboard is concerned.

“I'm in hurry to cut schools or make a top five,” said Trout. “I'll take some visits during football season and all of my official visits. I'm taking the process slowly. I'll go all the way to the end.”
