Malik Zaire, Sr. – The Notre Dame transfer arrived on campus in June. Zaire is in a three-man race for the starting quarterback job, though he’s struggled with consistency as a passer in practice. A running threat, Zaire will likely see his touches even if not named the starter.
Kyle Trask, R-Fr. – The arrival of Zaire and the return of Luke Del Rio for fall camp, combined with his rehabbing from an injury sustained over the spring has pushed Trask out of the starting quarterback competition. Long considered a project at the position, it appears the former Manvel, Texas backup quarterback will have to remain patient.
Jake Allen, Fr. – Not a part of the three-man quarterback competition, Allen will almost certainly redshirt. With four other scholarship quarterbacks on roster, the Gators have plenty of depth at the position.
Feleipe Franks, R-Fr. – Franks was the leader to be named starting quarterback after spring practice, but that was when his only competition was Trask. The Crawfordville, Fla. quarterback has the strongest arm of the three, but has work to do in the decision-making department.
Luke Del Rio, R-Jr. – With his experience and understanding of the offense, Del Rio has managed to make a strong push for the starting job. After dealing with a knee injury and multiple shoulder injuries last season, the journeyman signal-caller is out to prove that when healthy, he can be an effective SEC quarterback.
