Dante Lang had a couple of factors to consider in the five months between his initial commitment to the Florida Gators and when he signed his National Letter of Intent on December 20th.
Lang, a Boca Raton (Fla.) native, had to evaluate the program’s firing of head coach Jim McElwain and all the assistant coaches that were relieved of their duties after the season. Lang, like other recruits considering Florida, also had to witness the team’s putrid 2017 campaign that was plagued by injuries, suspensions and poor offensive coaching.
Despite all of these factors going against Florida’s favor, the 6-foot-5, 230-pound tight end never wavered on his commitment to the Gators. Lang instead valued the school’s academics and the program itself, which allowed him to stick with the school through those tough times.
Today it's time to learn a little bit more about Lang on a personal level in this edition of Getting to Know.

Take us through the process that led to your commitment. What was that experience like for you?
When I went up to Gainesville for the spring game and everything about it seemed right. And then going up there the 20th of July, watching the sophomores practice and then I already knew in previous visits that I wanted to go there. So, on the 21st of July, I committed and it just seemed right with coach [Jim] McElwain, coach [Greg] Nord and everyone. Seemed like one family. The night after he left, I thought everything was going to be different. But, to be honest, with the new coaching staff, everybody else seemed like it’s more like home than it did before. It’s just perfect.
Which school came in second for you and why?
I never had no doubts in my mind about anything.
What was the craziest, strangest or weirdest moment of the recruiting cycle (a visit, something a coach said or did, etc...)?
