Recruiting superlatives at the halfway point

As of today we are exactly two weeks past the halfway point of the 2018 recruiting cycle. With that in mind, Inside the Gators takes a look at the recruiting class at the midway point of the recruiting cycle by awarding the class superlatives.

  MVP (Most Valuable Prospect):

This disclaimer has to be added each and every year: This category isn't now and has never been about who has the highest ranking or the most stars by their name. If that were the case, it would be simple to look at whose name appears the closest to the top on the Rivals 100.

Several factors are taken into consideration including ranking and Florida's need at the position as well as how valuable he has been to the Gators recruiting process.

Based on the criteria listed above, commits such as Iverson Clement and Curtis Dunlap were considered, but in the end it was a no-brainer to hand this off to Matt Corral. He not only checks all three boxes, he double (need) and triple (ranking and value as a recruiter) checks them.

  Most Underrated:

This was a hard one to pick because I see three current Florida commits who I can make a case for deserving to be ranked higher than they currently are: David Reese, Tyquan Thornton and Taylor Upshaw.

We'll see if anything has changed when the new round of 2018 rankings are released next week. However, for now, Thornton is a kid I think Rivals is not only missing the boat on as a 5.5 three-star - but is 'off the most' on when it comes to the three I listed.

I see him more as a high three/low four-star type of prospect. He is someone with legitimate height and top end speed (10.5 100m). He tore it up at the 7v7 Florida held in June.
