Florida (3-2, 3-1 SEC) closes out a three-game homestand with Texas A&M (4-2, 2-1 SEC) in a primetime showdown at 7 p.m. Saturday on ESPN 2. Jim McElwain's squad looks to bounce back from a heartbreaking 17-16 homecoming loss to LSU. With the Aggies in town, these five Gators are On the Spot this week.

Freshman safety Shawn Davis

With senior safety Nick Washington out due to a shoulder injury, Davis is On the Spot to step up this week. The rookie found himself on the wrong end of a highlight play in the Michigan game when he stepped in briefly for Washington. Davis got mixed up in coverage and left a Wolverines receiver wide open for a 46-yard touchdown. When Davis’ past miscue was brought up Wednesday, McElwain pushed back against the notion it was the freshman's fault.

“Shawn Davis didn't give up that touchdown,” McElwain said. “He just happened to be trying to cover for somebody else that should have been there, and yet, this is the guy that gets the blame for it, but that's all right."

Florida’s safeties face a tall task in pass defense this week trying to cover Texas A&M wide receiver Christian Kirk. McElwain said Wednesday that the Gators will likely have a safety over the top on Kirk to double-team the elite pass-catcher.
